As a member of the Network of International Education Associations (NIEA) and an organization dedicated to the development of the internationalization process of Brazilian HEIs, FAUBAI signs and disseminates the NIEA Statement on the Importance of the Internationalization of Higher Education and Research. The text reinforces the importance of the internationalization of higher education for a more sustainable and better future for all, recognizing international collaboration as essential to finding solutions to global problems, even in the complex context of COVID-19.
The statement appeals to National Governments and Higher Education Institutions: to governments, it asks them to ensure that HEIs are considered as central protagonists to achieve sustainable development; to support the internationalization of HE and research and to increase global access to internationalization opportunities; that they guarantee equity; and that they are more open to promoting innovation in cooperation in research and internationalization of higher education.
To Higher Education Institutions, the statement pleads that they promote and participate in cross-sectoral collaboration; increase diversity – eliminating discrimination – and the development and dissemination of knowledge; develop co-curricular programs and implement Internationalization at home, and establish an institutional commitment to society.
